Apple Pie Plus

(I got this recipe from "Calling All Cooks" on the Food TV Network. It was done by a 14 year old girl, Kendra Malloy from Kansa City. It's fabulous. After I baked this the first time, Josh told me to throw my old apple pie recipe away.)

NOTE: LINE BOTTOM OF OVEN WITH FOIL - THIS CAN MAKE A MESS !
Preheat oven to 425
Prepare and roll double pastry crust
Peel and slice 5-7 Granny Smith Apples

Sauce:
2 TBSP cornstarch
2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp salt
6 TBSP sugar
6 TBSP melted butter
2/3 cup light corn syrup
1 tsp vanilla
1 TBSP lemon juice
Topping:
3/4/cup dark brown sugar
3 TBSP flour
6 TBSP light corn syrup
4 TBSP melted butter
1/4 cup walnut halves (optional)

I make the sauce and topping first, then peel and slice the apples.
Place bottom crust in a large, deep-dish 9 or 10 inch pie pan
Fill crust with sliced apples
Pour sauce mixture over apples
Put half of topping on apples and sauce
Cover with top crust and make several slits to let steam escape
Bake 45 minutes until bubbly
CAREFULLY remove from oven
Spread the rest of the topping over top crust
Return to oven for 10 minutes

Let cool for an hour and serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream
